The Faroe Islands and Greenland are not part of the Schengen cooperation and not a member of the EU, therefore a Schengen visa does not give access to entry into the Faroe Islands and Greenland.

How to apply?

The application procedure for visas to enter the Faroe Islands or Greenland is the same as for a Danish visa. In order to apply for a visa to the Faroe Islands and Greenland, you must apply and pay the fee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' online application form. After you have applied for and paid the visa fee, you must print and sign the cover letter from ApplyVisa. The next step is to book an appointment online. On the day of your appointment, you are requested to visit the Visa Application Centre at the location selected. You need to bring all the required and supporting documents for the visa application. 6. Once submitted, in order to track your application, please provide the following information below:

  • Name of Customer:

  • Passport Number:

  • Visa Category:

You will be informed (by E-mail/SMS) when a decision has been made on your visa application for the collection of your passport.

How early I can apply? An application for a visa can be handed in no earlier than six months prior to the intended entry. For seafarers in the performance of their duties, a nine months rule apply.

As a rule, applications should at the latest be handed in 15 days prior to the intended entry.

Processing time

The Danish mission has 15 days to make a decision on the visa application from the date the mission receives the passport, application and biometrics. In some cases, the processing time can be extended to 45 days, when further case processing is needed.
